Should real men wear jewelry – Yes or No? This has long been a discussion that has taken place amongst the more masculine conscious men out there. But we are in 2013 and perhaps the caveman attitude is starting to wear a bit thin. This article looks at ways in which men can look good with a little bling on their side, I hope you enjoy it!
Understand Jewellery
Jewellery is very symbolic and people often attach a lot of meaning to how we wear it. The earring in the right ear used to be a sign of being gay, but eventually men took to wearing one in each ear. Does this signify that the wearer swings both ways or have the original meanings been quashed? A man wearing jewels of any sort is more likely to be scrutinised compared to a member of the fairer sex. This is simply because it is the exception instead of the norm. Men should take some care in how they wear these items as these signals can often be misconstrued.
What To Wear
When men are dressed for work they usually take special care about how they are perceived, especially for important business meetings. We are usually advised to wear only ‘tasteful’ jewellery and that is putting it mildly. Cufflinks are probably the only type of bling that would not attract a second look, along with wedding bands. Earrings are not really acceptable unless you are working for a progressive company with less stringent restrictions in place.
Various All Male Jewellery Items
There are certain items of jewellery that are singled out as ‘male’ items, they include the following:
- Large watches – These can be amazingly fashionable as long as they don’t take the focus off the person who is wearing the timepiece. Keep the strap nice and plain and try to have at least 3 or 4 to alternate between your outfits.
- Blazer Buttons – Men often upgrade their blazer buttons to a silver or even gold version. They indicate someone with money and good taste to match.
- Cufflinks – A classic accessory that can come in all shapes and sizes. The cufflinks often cost far more than the shirt and suit they are rocking.
- Rings – Although the ladies enjoy wearing these items, men seem to have more controversial tastes. Championship rings are a nice touch for those reunions, whilst decorative rings are a more ethnic style choice.
Stay Simple Stay Cool
If there are any rules to adhere to when selecting jewellery, it is probably that less is definitely more on most occasions. Start off simple and then you can add as a matter of choice, it is much harder to take away after you have made that fashion clanger! Metallic items are best kept small and sleek unless you are a world famous rapper on his way to a jam!
Last Word
Whatever your style choice, when it comes to men wearing jewellery just try to keep it real and real simple at that!
